Privacy Policy

This policy explains what I do with your personal information when you use this website, get in touch, book a session, or sign up to my newsletter.

1. Who I am

Emmer Publishing is the data controller for the information described in this policy. You can contact me at danielle@emmerpublishing.com. A postal address is available on request.

2. What I collect and why

When you use the contact form: your name, email address, the service you're interested in, and whatever you write in your message. I use this to reply to you and, if we go on to work together, to deliver the service. The lawful basis is that processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about my business.

When you book a session: bookings are handled through Calendly, which collects your name, email address and any details you provide when booking. I use this to run the session and to contact you about it. The lawful basis is performance of a contract.

When you join The Emmer Edit: my newsletter is run through MailerLite, which collects your name and email address, and records whether you open emails and click links. I use this to send you occasional emails about writing and self-publishing. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.

When you visit the site: my hosting provider keeps standard server logs, and I use analytics to understand how the site is being used. See the cookie policy for detail.

I do not buy contact details, and I do not add people to my newsletter unless they have asked to be added.

3. Who I share it with

I don't sell your information or share it for marketing. I use these service providers, who process information on my behalf:

Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where information is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.

I may also share information where I am required to by law.

4. How long I keep it

Enquiries that don't lead to work are kept for 24 months. Client records are kept for six years after our work ends, as required for tax purposes. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, and removed shortly afterwards.

5. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the information I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how I use it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these, email danielle@emmerpublishing.com and I'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or by calling 0303 123 1113.

6. Cookies

Details of the cookies this site uses are in the cookie policy.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes I'll update this page and change the date below.
